Building on the success of the standard FaultCaster tester (Mills part no C00-7947), the Mills FaultCaster+ has all the great benefits of the standard unit but with the added benefit of being able to test remote end termination. A key feature of the FaultCaster is its long range ability, detecting and locating faults on all types of copper cable up to a distance of 2000m (6000 ft). The FaultCaster+ is a palm-top digital TDR (Time Doman Reflectometer) which comes suppliled with a remote unit. When the remote unit is fitted to the far end of a terminated coaxial cable, the main unit will display the remote number, pass/fail and the cable length. Cable that has been incorrectly terminated will show 'open or short' and the length to the faulty termination.

The cable being tested is attached to the FaultCaster+ using either the BNC connector located at the top of the unit or the alligator clip attachment which is provided for un-terminated cables. By incorporating Fast-edge Step TDR Technology, the FaultCaster+ is able to measure cable length, and indicate the distance to open or short circuit faults, in the range up to 2000m (6000ft) on virtually any type of cable. The accuracy of the measurements is +/- 2% and the results are displayed on a 2x16 digit alpha-numeric LCD.

An internal library of standard cable types enables accurate measurement without the necessity of entering the Velocity of Propagation information, and the FaultCaster+ automatically compensates for different cable impedances. Where the Velocity of Propagation is not known the Faultcaster+ can determine this by testing a piece of cable of a known length.

The FaultCaster+ incorporates an oscillating tone generator that is detectable with a standard tone probe, for use in the tracing and identification of cable pairs. An auto shutdown feature turns the unit off automatically four minutes after the last key press to preserve battery life. The FaultCaster+ also displays a "Voltage Detected" warning and sounds an alarm when connected to a cable that is carrying voltage greater than 10V. Testing is also inhibited.

The FaultCaster+ is supplied in a rugged, IP54 dust proof ABS case complete with remote unit and appropriate testing cables. Completely portable, it is powered by 4 x 1.5v AA alkaline cells which are included.

The FaultCaster+ provides the professional cable installer with a fast and accurate means to measure the length of a cable or distance to a fault, and is also ideal for inventory control, for example to measure the lengths of cable stock on part used cable drums.........Full details
